We are gathered here today to remember this plastic bottle. Had it not been removed from the river bank the Co. Ecticut River would not have forgotten it. It is a small bottle, but it is representative of a larger problem.
The bottle may have gotten washed further down the river, no longer seen at it’s original site but it would still be there, present in the waterway.
Over time the beating from the current, rocks it would tumble against and the sun’s rays may have broken it down a little bit, but it would still be there.
A boat propeller may have hit it and shredded it to bits and pieces, but it would still be there.
No matter what; fully intact, broken up or shredded to bits, it would still be there, for years and years.
Thankfully it has moved on and it is no longer there.
